SST’s Custom LED Shield Lights

Shield Light

SST was founded in 1996 and began as a manufacturer of chips and wafers used to make LEDs and High-powered Lasers.  SST began making its own LED products (including flashlights and mechanics lights) in 2005.  SST filed a patent for its new, Application Specific (AS-LED) module design in 2006, and the patent for the AS-LED was received in 2008.  SST uses the most advanced LED chips available to manufacture all its AS-LED modules and LED products.

SST introduced its ST40 Model LED Shield Light in 2008.  The ST40 LED Shield Light is extremely durable and is ideal for tactical operations by the police or military.  The ST40 Shield Light Standard Design is made with an ST40 light fixture housing and a single AS-LED module.  The light fixture “strip” connects to a water-resistant, aluminum power unit containing four CR123 batteries (each with a capacity of 1,470+ mAh).  The power unit connects to a pressure-sensored on-off switch (typically mounted close to the shield’s handle).  A durable coaxial cable is used to connect the LED strip, power unit, and pressure-sensored switch.  SST’s most basic shield light has a runtime of ~8 hours and light output of 900 lumens.

ST40 specThe ST40 LED Strip is shown at left.  The light fixture housing is made of a thin strip of Anodized Extruded Aluminum.  The small-profile fixture is extremely durable and ideal for use with ballistic shields and riot shields.  The fixture is lightweight and resistant to water, fire, and impact damage.

The ST40 Shield Light can be customized to fit almost any need.  The standard fixture lengths are 4, 5, or 6-inches.  The fixture can be made with either one or two LED modules (to provide a light output of either 900 or 1,800 lumens).  The standard LED color temperature is 5,500K, but temperatures from 2,700K to 7,000K are available upon request.  The beam spread (lighting angle) can be either 90 or 120 degrees.

Industrial VELCRO patches can be used to easily mount the components of SST’s ST40 LED Shield Light to any shield.  This is usually the recommended mounting method since it avoids having to to drill any mounting holes in the shield.

SST also makes the ST40 Shield Light with a Wireless Remote Control.  The remote control setup eliminates the need for a cable running from the front to the back of the shield (to connect the LED strip to the power unit).

With the wireless remote controlled setup, the ST40 LED strip and a remote-controlled power unit are both mounted to the front of the shield.  A remote control on-off switch is mounted on the back of the shield where the power unit is within its detection range.  An additional pressure-sensored on-off switch (typically mounted close to the shield’s handle) is wired to the remote control on-off switch using a coaxial cable.

SST also offers Rechargeable Lithium batteries as an alternative to using four CR123 batteries in its ST40 LED Shield Light.  Three rechargeable batteries provide a runtime of ~2.5 hours, and six rechargeable batteries provide a runtime of ~5 hours.

Basic Features of SST’s Custom LED Shield Lights:

  • Optional light-strobing feature
  • Customized mounting brackets available to fit your shield’s design
  • Recommended lighting (viewing) angle of either 90 or 120 degrees
  • Recommended minimum light output is 900 lumens (using one 3-chip LED module)
  • The on-off switch can be constructed with a pressure sensor, a wireless remote control, or both
  • 9-24V operating range (we recommend four 3V CR123 batteries)
  • Run time for one 3-chip LED module using four 3V CR123 batteries is ~8 hours

SST’s Custom LED Shield Lights have a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the fixture (the aluminum housing and LED module), a Two-year Warranty on additional parts (such as wiring), and a One-year Warranty on rechargeable batteries and chargers (if applicable).
